“WE SHALL WIN IN 1943”
Here are my views of the pros- j pects:— 1. There will be no military invasion j of Britain, though there will be heavy j sea and possibly air attacks 2. The Russians will not only hold j out till next winter, but next spring | and summer will be in a position to j pass to the offensive themselves. 3. We shall be able to assist at first j only by heavy and frequent raids on the enemy occupied coastline, but if the Russian offensive goes well we may have the chance to initiate a regular campaign in some part of Europe. 4. We shall clear all the Axis troops from North-East Africa, and so secure sea and air command of the Mediterranean. 5. Any Axis attempt to renew the eastward drive through Turkey will, if it takes place at all, be repulsed with the Allies’ help. 6. By this time next year the Allies should be in a position to prepare during the winter of 1942-43 for a decisive victorious campaign in the summer of 1943. (Major G. W. Sheppard, military correspondent of the London “Daily Herald”).
