HAMBURG ATTACKED
BOMBER COMMAND RAIDS OTIIKR TARGETS IN NORTHWEST GERMANY ENEMY VESSELS BOMBED (Roc. 10.15 a.m.) Rugby, Oct,., 27. Many squadrons of the Bomber Command attacked Hamburg and other objectives in northwest Germany last night. Docks at Cherbourg were also attacked. Coastal Command aircraft bombed docks and shipping at Egersund in south Norway and Nantes in western France and supply stores and enemy aerodromes in northern France were attacked by our fighters. Four aircraft of the Bomber Command are missing from these operations. It is learned in London that two enemy fighters were destroyed during an early morning patrol bv British fighters over northern France. A Beaufort aircraft of the It.A.F. Coastal Command on patrol bombed a German supply ship of medium size off the Norwegian coast last night and left it burning fiercely, says the Air Ministry news service. The Beaufort attacked from mast height with bombs while the rear-gunner swept the vessel with machine-gun fire. As the aircraft Hew away whitish smoke from the ship was just visible in the darkness. However it began to glow, then flames burst out. and they were still visible 25 miles away. A Hudson aircraft of the Coastal Command attacked another convoy off Texel, bombing the largest ship and machine-gunning others. The night was too dark, however, to observe definite results. BOMBER’S CREW RESCUED It has been announced that five members of the crew of one of the R.A.F. bombers reported missing after last night’s raids on Germany have been rescued from the sea and landed in Britain.- -8.0.
