The inhabitants of the small Sudeten ! town, Pokratitz, who, barely two years ; ago. were tricked by the apparently ; right but actually not correct promises i of German propaganda, recently found j a clever way of telling their new masI ter- wliai they think of them. f( I A a old married couple, bearing the U j same name as the Czechoslovakian Prei sident. Dr Benes. were due to celebrate j their golden wedding. Though they J were humble people, unknown to the 1 vast majority of their fellow-citizens. the town organised a great formal pro- j| j cession for them through the streets. Of j while the inhabitants lined the pave- @ j merits and shouted, "Long live Benes!” I Disconcerted, yet powerless, the S.S men stood looking on—until shouts of fit "Down with Henlein!” intermingled I vitli the Vivas. Then they arrested V some dozens of the demonstrators, who I are now threatened with prosecution ■ for high treason.
