WOMEN’S AIRFORCE
j RECRUITING SUSPENDED AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPMENT Sydney, Oct. 25. Officers in command of the Air Force recruiting in Western Australia and Queensland have been officially instructed not to recruit more women for the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force. The future of all women’s auixilary organisations will be discussed at a meeting of the War Cabinet in Canberra on Thursday. The Air Minister, Mr Drakeford, said he had given no orders to stop training for the W.A.A.A.F. "The position is that the question of going on with the programme is being held in in abeyance pending examination by the Goverment,” he said. The original intention was to make the W.A.A.A.F. strength between 5000 and 7000. This probably will be considerably reduced. Federal Labour politicians said the main reason why the Federal Government intended to review the position was that Labour stood for equal pay for the sexes. At present, they said, women were doing jobs formerly held by men, but for lower pay.
