Association was held in the old • j Masonic Hall, Takaka, on Friday evening, where the president, Mr T. ~ W. Harford, presided over a fair at- ■ tendance. D i METHOD OF APPOINTING 1 JUDGES , The president suggested that the j _ j appointment of judges should be car- j ♦ t : ried out by a special committee, as! j! was done in other A. and P. asQ J soriations. c j It was resolved, on the motion of 1 Messrs W. J. Newport and J. W. Murray, that a sub-committee be set up | to make the final selection of judges ] from names suggested by the show ; committee. f ! Discussing the number of members r I to be appointed to the sub-committee ’ j Mr D. O. Winter pointed out that in , e j order to ensure that suitable judges ' I were chosen it would be necessary to s I have stewards or other persons familiar with each section of the show, c : on the special committee. s | The secretary (Mr John Winter) said it would mean a large sub~l committee and extra meetings to complete the appointment of judges. n ; He saw little advantage in the sugc i gested change. ,v j After some further discussion, all “ members present agreed that the re's solution providing for a sub-corn - ‘ s i mittee to appoint judges should be 11 1 struck out and a formal resolution h rescinding it was carried on the mo- ° j tion of Messrs Edgar Petterson and D. c ! E. Winter. ! The appointment of judges was J* . then proceeded with. it' CLASSES FOR MOUNTED cl, TROOPERS h The chairman said Major Lorimer had asked him to suggest to the committee that the classes open only to members of the 7th Mounted Rifle Squadron entry free and no prizes be awarded. It was also suggested that the military authorities ap- ; point the judge lor these classes. ’{ Mr A. H. Baigent said he did not like the proposal that there should s be no prizes. h I Mr G. W. E. C. Baigent and carried. A suggestion by Mr D. O. Winter ~ that separate judges be appointed for } the pony classes (under 14.2 hands) ( and for light horses over 14.2 hands 1 met with general approval, and put ; in the form of a motion, was car--1 ried unanimously. >• c REPAIR OF BUILDINGS J In view of the fact that negotiations i for the nurchase bv flip assncintirm

of the Takaka Athletic and Cycling Club’s interest in the show ground were nearing completion. Mr Maunder expressed the view that preliminary arrangements for the carrying out of repairs to the building: should be put in hand at once, if they were to have the buildings in a fit condition in time for the show. Mr Murray said he thought it was now too late to effect the extensive renovations asked for by the Health Inspector. In his opinion, they should endeavour to ascertain from the inspector an indication of what would be his minimum requirements in the matter of repairs to permit the ground and buildings to be used for the show. Members generally agreed that there should be no undue delay in ascertaining the exact position and a committee, consisting of Messrs Maunder, Newport, A. H. Baigent and J. W. Murray was set up to inspect the buildings and report to the next meeting on the repairs it was considered were most urgently needed. If possible the sub-committee is also to confer with the Health Inspector.
