B.COM. EXAMINATION
QUESTION OF KEEPING TERMS | Many accountancy students, who wish to sit tor examinations for the degree of Bachelor of Commerce, feel .aggrieved by the decision of the N.Z. | University authorities that such students must keep terms at one of the four university colleges. At a recent meeting the Education Committee of the New Zealand Society i of Accountants was asked by the Wellington Accountant Students’ Society to consider the draft of a letter which it proposed to send to the Chancellor of the University. It was stated that students who had contracted for tuition at colleges apart from the university were at a serious disadvantage and in most cases it would be virtually impossible for them to complete the Degree without forfeiting their contracts. In view of this they would request that consideration should be given to the deletion of the time limit as set out in Section XII on page 144 of the 1941 Calendar. If. however, that was impossible, could arrangements be made whereby present students could declare those subjects for which they had already contracted for tuition, and when such subjects had been passed for the professional examination, could the University credit those subjects to students taking the B. Com. under the new syllabus? It was stated at the Education Committee’s meeting that the university had already been informed that many possible candidates for the B.Com. degree would not be able to keep terms because they did not reside near the university centres. It was agreed that the Society of Accountants could not take further action because the examination was wholly a university one for which the conditions were lixed by the University authorities.
