SOCIAL AM) I) A NCI DELEGATES ENTERTAINED A social and dance held in the Lower Mouterc Women’s Institute to 1 Jubilee Hall was organised by the entertain delegates to the annual I Council meeting of the Nelson Disi trict ederation. In spite of very wet i weather the attendance was good and the function most successful. For the occasion the hall was beautifully decorated with streamers of red and i green (Institute colours), flowers and ; greenery. Proceedings commenced I with the singing of the National AnI them, after which a programme ol ! dancing, vocal items and a play-read-j ing, was thoroughly enjoyed. Messrs JC\ Berry (piano), and L. Gray (saxophone) provided the music for the j dancing and Mr W. J. Davis acted as M.C. I Songs in character were contributled by Marcelle Snow and vocal solos by Mrs A. H. Eddie, the accompaniments being played by Mr G. Clinch. An amusing play-reading entitled "Calais to Dover” was given by Mesdames Tweedy, Thomas, Krammer, C. Starnes and Mr T. Thorp. Mackav (president) i extended a hearty welcome to the ! delegates and thanked all who had assisted to make the evening a success. Mrs W. Smith (Hope) president of the Nelson District Federation, thanked the Lower Mouterc and the Ngatimoti members for their hospitality to delegates and congratulated the Lower Mouterc ladies on the excellent way in which they had organised the evening function and on its success. Mrs L. Wise had charge of the cake and produce stall, which was well patronised. Twenty-live per cent, of the proceeds from the social and dance will be donated toi the Patriotic Fund, the remainder going to the District Federation Fund. MONTHLY MELTING The monthly meeting of the Lower, Moutere Women’s Institute was held a week earlier than usual, owing to preparations having to be made for the entertainment of delegates after the annual Council meeting. Mrs C. H. Mackay presided and afternoon tea was provided and dis I pensed by Mesdarnes L. Mackay and j I Liddicoat. All the articles on the; I sales’ table were sold and proceeds devoted to Institute funds. The roll call—an amusing story about a child; —was well responded to and proved highly entertaining. Mrs Harding's exhibit was given first place in the competition—best bloom—and second and third places were awarded Mesdarnes Wise and Mcßrydie respectively.
