NO WILL YET FOUND

ESTATE OF MRS ALICE MERRY ;, ; Wellington, This Day. i| Though the closest possible search - h as been made, no sign has been found t of any will which might have been left by Mrs Alice Merry, the 83-year-old r widow who was found dead in bed at 1 her home in Cambridge Terrace, Wellington, on Wednesday. Relatives feel ;. convinced that she left a will. 1 It is understood that the £26,500 in 2 banknotes which was found in the J house was in several places, some of - the notes being in a black bag which she always carried, another amount 2 j secreted under the lining of a chair. - and more in a coat. It is suggested I that Mrs Merry, who apparently did i not believe in placing money in banks, had not reinvested a large amount received from Government stock which had recently matured. Some years ago n burglar entered the house in Cambridge Terrace, v here Mrs Merry was living alone, next door to the house in which she was found dead. Whether she had • any large amount of money in the 1 : house at that lime was not revealed. • 1 nor was it disclosed that anything was taken by the intruder, but Mrs ’ Merry received a painful injury on the ! face. After that she lived in a room , in the next-door house, where she : could summon help if necessary. c I About a year ago, it is stated. Mrs ' Merry proposed to •wind an envelope s tu one of her nieces, with instructions I that it should not be opened till after I i her death. Similar envelopes were to | be given to two other relatives, but » Mrs Merry later changed her mind . 1 and nothing eventuated. It is con- . sidered possible that these might have i contained copies of a will. i ; The funeral of Mrs Merry took r ! place yesterday.—P.A.
