COMEDY AND COLOUR

"FRESH FIELDS REPERTORY PI.AY NEXT TUESDAY All theatregoers who are fond of finished acting, colourful and artistic settings, tuneful music or a hearty laugh are eagerly looking forward to the rising of the curtain at the Theatre Royal next Tuesday. It is always a privilege to be amongst the "firstnighters” of a new ploy, to judge for oneself the efforts of the players and to be able the following day to tell one’s friends “the latest”; for “Fresh Fields” abounds in witty dialogue and brilliant repartee. In addition, there are many amusing situations that will make one forget the weather and the blackout, ancl smooth out the wrinkles on the most care-worn brown: Ludlow, the butler teaching Tom Larcomb golfstrokes amidst priceless statues in an elegantly furnished drawing-room; the languid Lady Lilian moving in a world of her own breakfasting off dewdrops and butterfly wings; the impecunious Lady Mary’s efforts to make both ends meet; the Australians’ reactions to China tea, Epstein and Court presenta- | tions. All these and many more combine to give life, colour and humour to a comedy that has met with instant success whenever it has been produced. In the skilled hands of Mrs Moynihan, whose successes include “Nine Till Six” and “Hay Fever,” the cast has shown that finish lo word, movement or entry that is now associated with local Repertory productions. Incidental music will again be played by Mr Clarrie Lee and his orchestra and all who arc familiar wilh the interpretations of this nicely-balanced team of musicians will be delighted with the compositions to be played. I The box-plan at Snapshots is filling rapidly. The public ies earnestly adI vised to book as soon as possible for | "Fresh Fields.” As explained in a I previous issue, special block-booking j concessions are offered, whereby good | seats may be reserved in certain parts |of the theatre for either Tuesday or I Wednesday provided that the seats are I booked ut the one time. These may be grouped in any number for either ! night. | The fact that all profits will be handed over to Patriotic Funds should be a ; further inducement to see and hear this delightfully amusing comedy "Fresh Fields.”
