HOUSE CRICKET ASSOCIATION

ej ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the House Cricket Association was held on 1 ; Thursday night in Lock Bros’, room, Mr L W. Delaney presiding over a small at--1 | tendance, due to the wet weather. The annual report and balance sheet d ! were read and adopted, t g ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers for the ensuing | season resulted as follows: President: Mr W. Delaney. Secretary-treasurer: Mr If. Stanton. General Committee: President, score tary and captains of affiliated teams. The affiliation fee was fixed at 2s 6d per club, this amount to be paid when the first match is played. The ground fees were again fixed at Gd per player j j per game, or 3s 9d a team, this amount e to be paid to the secretary-treasurer not s later than the Saturday following each match. : t ANNUAL REPORT c The annual report, inter alia, stated - that in spite of the loss of a considerable , number of players through several leav--1 ing for overseas with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. and others attending the territorial training camps, the 1940-41 season was quite successful, some 10 teams affiliat- , ing and playing evening games at Trafalgar Park and the Botanies. These proved most enjoyable, being played in an excellent picnic cricket spirit. Weck- ; end. all-day matches were also played at Tapawera, Brightwater and Stoke !. (Air Force twice) and were thoroughly t enjoyed, the hospitality of the home - teams being greatly appreciated. Petrol l* ! restrictions would probably make the i conditions more difficult for games to - 1 be played farther afield, but it was hop- ? ed to have matches at Foxhill, Bright i water and Stoke during the coming sea j son. For the evening games several of the teams were experiencing difficulty | in scratching up full elevens, but it was thought that by combining some of them, sufficient games could be played to keep up interest during the forthl coming season. | The arrangements for the preparation j of the wickets in the evenings at the j Park and the Botanies were again quite satisfactory and the same conditions would prevail this year. The collection of the 6d levy per player each game entailed a little extra work, but the groundsmen’s efforts were appreciated and the amount was really a very small one to pay for an enjoyable two hours’ evening cricket once a week. The annual matches against the Nelson A and B junior representatives were not completed owing to bad weather and the intervening K cup match. Finance: As the ground fees were collected by the Association and handed | over wholly to the City Cricket Asso-| ciation for payment to the City Council, 1 no revenue was available from this; source. The only other source of income was the 2s 6d affiliation fee from each of the 10 teams. These small amounts were swallowed up by advertising, room rent, bureau fees, a match ball etc. The receipts and expenditure just balanced and there was no cash in hand.! On the other hand, there were no i j debts.
