APPOINTMENT REVOKED
SYDNEY UNIVERSITY ? TWO NEW ZEALAND PROFESSORS AFFECTED • Rec. 9.15 a.m.) Sydney. This Day. The University Senate to-night re--1 voked two New Zealand appointments 1 respectively, the dean of law and the 1 professorship of international law and 1 juris-prudence. Professor Williams of Wellington and Professor Stone of ’ Auckland had secured these posts on 13th October by twelve votes to ten. Opposition to the appointments arose . mainly from Jhe fact that two eminentJv qualified Australians on active service had been passed over although they were applicants and a move for • rescission of the motion appointing the New Zealanders led to a further meeting of the Senate to-day. This was carried by thirteen votes to ten. Advocates lor the rescission urged that appointments should be deferred while their opponents contended that the Senate should be guided by the recommendation of the Professorial Board which had selected the best men for the vacant chair.- The Registrar < f the University told the Senate that he had not adv ised the New Zealanders of their appointments after the la>t meeting owing to the rescission motion having been tabled. A further meeting of the Senate will | be held in a fortnight's time to decide what further course of action should he taken. U.P.A.
