The Stamp Club
CONDUCTED BY THE STAMP MAN
Dear Boys and Girls, Just recently I came across a stamp' inscribed “Ruanda-Urundi,” and wondered where these places were. I. have found that they are the native names of two regions in Belgian East. Africa, and belonged to Germany, but, after the World War, were given! to Belgium. On the Ruanda plateau,: which is one of Africa’s best cattle: countries, live a type of Negro people, j many of whom are more than seven! feet tall. The low and heavily for-! ested .regions near the rivers are in- 1 habited by a race of tiny black j people, four feet or less in height, who! make their living by fishing, growing! vegetables, and gathering the wild j nuts from which palm oil is made. I You can see that this stamp has taught me a lot of interesting things about a part of the world I had noli before heard of, and I thought you would be interested to know about) it, too. Don’t forget, we still need plenty of used New Zealand stamps for Patriotic Funds. Your friend, THE STAMP MAN. THANK YOU FOR STAMPS “Anon,” Nelson; Barbara and Ken Hollis, Foxhill; Barbara and Allan Kerr, Takaka.
