STATE ADVANCES DEFEAT CITY COUNCIL j The House Cricket Association’s season was opened last evening when, in spite of the wintry conditions, an enjoyable game was played between Stale Advances and City Council, the former scoring a win by 65 runs. | State Advances knocked up 135. the j principal scorers being Halgh 25 (retired). Rice 29 (retired). Kerr 27 retired, and Stevens 17. City Council’s [score was 70, O'Connor 26. Burden 19 f being the double figure batsmen. | Bowling for City Council, O’Connor I one for 29. J. Snow two for 5, and A. ’ Snow one for 13 secured the bes t av - ! erages, while McLaughlin two wickets ' for 13. Kerr three for 8. Vnulier one for 16, and J. Preece two for 8 obtained ' the best bowling results.
