OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN
fTo the Editor) Sir, —As a visitor to New Zealand 1 am glad to see in your issue of 20th October a sub-leader dealing with offences against children. I am in agreement with the writer that four years’ reformative detention was an inadequate punishment for such a crime. It is high time that the public demand a more adequate handling of these men. If mental, they should be treated as such. If not, they should be segregated to prevent any further mischief. The public does not seem to realise the terrible consequences to the child against whom this outrage is committed. —I am. etc., N. S. HELM, B.Sc. (Lond.) Nelson, 22nd October.
