FIGURES FOR AUGUST AND EIGHT MONTHS SHARP DECREASE SHOWN Sharp decreases in both exports and I imports are shown in the overseas trade figures for August, released yesterday by the Customs Department. 1 For the eight months of this year substantial decreases are also shown for both exports and imports. Exports during August totalled £2,614.000, compared with £4.584,000 in August, 1940. a decrease of £1.970.000. Imports for the month amounted to £4.091.000 against £5.120.000 m August. 1940, a decrease ol £1.029,000. For the month there is an excess of imports over exports of £1.477,000. compared with a similar excess of £536,000 in August. 1940. Imports for the same period amounted to £30.486.000 against £34.050.000 in the corresponding period of 1940. a decrease of £3.564.000. The excess of exports for thk period totalled £ 13,981.000 against a similar excess of £20.195,000 for the eight months of 1940, a decrease of £6.214,000.
