OPOSSUM SKIN SALE

* The first opqgsum skin sale of the 1 I season was held at Dunedin last week i when Dalgety and Company submitted 1 a catalogue of approximately 65,000 I skins, which was a record offering for i ; New Zealand. The display was a very | attractive one, and comprised skins '■ drawn from every acclimatisation dis- ' | trict. The quality of the skins gener- '■ ally was on a par with last season, with II e exception of the West Coast, which weie inclined to be “spotty.” Trappers 1 presented their consignments in first : class order, the fatting, stretching etc., with a few exceptions, being well done. Competition was exceptionally strong f' all descriptions, and exporters bid freely on all our offering, the bulk of their purchases being destined for New York. New Zealand furriers were in the market but their buying was ch'efly confined to threequarter grown skins, ! and smalls. Blues and greys, which ■ sold at low rates last season, were in : demand and showed the greatest ad- , vance. All skins suitable for dyeing, ie. Red browns, dark browns, reds, red necks and pales (red greys), also : came in for particular attention, and were keenly competed for. As compared with the prices ruling ; in November last, values showed a considerable advance and blues and greys were 3s to 4s 6d. red necks 3, browns 2s to 3s, and blacks 2s fd to 3s 6d—all dearer.
