REPORTED GERMAN DEMANDS
AIR BASES AND FUEL London, Aug., 18. According to the Ankara correa- ( pondent of the Soviet news agency it is reliably reported that Germany has demanded air bases in Iran and fuel for German planes using them. The German Minister to Iran is stat- 1 cd to have warned the Government I tha. diplomatic relations would be severed if the German "citizens" were expelled. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that considerable force lies behind the British and j Soviet representations to Iran, and it is obvious that England and Russia at the present stage of the war would i not hesitate to use it if they were compelled to do so in furtherance of their settled policy. Reuter quotes reports from Ankara that 2500 Germans hold important posts in Iranian industry and public works projects.
