OBITUARY
MR J. R. GALLOWAY The death occurred on Saturday morning of the well-known Manawatu Golf Club professional. Mr J. R. Galloway. He had been away from Palmerston North for about a fortnight, and it was while he was visiting his son, Mr T. S. Galloway, the professional of the Rotorua Club, that he became ill and his death occurred. During the long period, about 20 years, that he had been associated with the Manawatu Club, Mr Galloway had become a popular figure on the links, and all those who came in contact with him always received a cheery word. He had a host of friends. Out of respect for him the Hokowhitu links were closed for play on Saturday afternoon. Mr Galloway, who came to New Zealand from the Loch Leven club, Fifeshire. Scotland, was an able player and coach, and there are many players who benefited by his experience, i He was a regular contender at New Zealand championship tournaments, and j m 1935 reached the semi-finals of the professional event, being eliminated on that occasion by A. J. Shaw.
