GERMANS EXERTING PRESSURE

DEFENCE OF FRENCH WEST AFRICA TO PARALLEL ACTION IN IXDO-CHINA London, July 27. The Germans are exerting pressure ! on Vichy regarding West Africa. A prominent French pro-Nazi is calling for an agreement between France and Germany for the defence of Africa, and it is suggested that the agreement l [should be along the same lines as the 1 agreement between France and Japan ! in connection with Indo-China. j The German-controlled Paris ' Press, is endeavouring to use the Far East-! ! ern situation for more collaboration 1 '.between France and Germany, and, • says that only Germany can ensure| ' the safety of the Empire which France ' is losing bit by bit. | French resistance is shown in a ‘ manifesto which has reached London, j Patriots in unoccupied France de- | nounce the Vichy Government. They. ; say that the official voices, the radio and the Press, are controlled by the j Germans, and that these in no way 1 express the real thoughts of the na- , tion. The manifesto declares that the people of unoccupied France rejected collaboration with Germany which would make France's enslavement final. EXIT OF GERMAN UNITS London, July 27. j The Moscow spokesman and Assistant Foreign Commissar, M. Lozovsky, stated that the Germans are transferring forces from Africa to the Eastern Front and that this is causing friction between the Germans and the Italians.
