POWER LINES BROUGHT DOWN

GALE IN NORTH TARANAKI New Plymouth, July 28. Minor property damage was done in North Taranaki and the coastal district from Opunake to Okato by a 60-mile-an-hour gale to-day. Electric power and telephone systems were affected when high voltage lines at Lepperton. and Bell Block and telephone poles at Omata. as well as private leads in many districts, were brought down. Considerable damage was done to power lines m the Rahotu. Warea and Puniho coastal districts and power was cut off over a large area most of the day. Several fairly large slips came down on roads east of Stratford as a result of incessant heavy rain and roads in the Tutuawa and Puniwhakau districts were blocked.—P.A.
