OBITUARY

MRS IRIS ORREL CURNOW Mrs Iris Orrell Curnow, whose death at the age of 52 years occurred suddenly at her residence, Motupipi road, Takaka, on 26th June, was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Scott. She was born and educated at Uruwhenua. Upon leaving school she took up school teaching, which work she carried on until her marriage to the late Mr Gilbert Curnow, of Puramahoi. During their married life the couple resided at Ormondville, Havelock, Tuamarina and Koromiko. In the last-named place Mrs Curnow’s husband predeceased her ten years ago. Since then she had resided at Blenheim and Takaka, where she acquired a small property in Motupipi road some six years ago. The late Mrs Curnow’s kindly disj position earned her the respect and j esteem of many friends in Takaka, j where she took a prominent part in j the activities of the Women’s Institute. She leaves a son, Mr Joseph j Curnow, of Takaka. Miss Nita Scott, | of Takaka, is the only surviving sister. The funeral service at the East ! Takaka cemetery, conducted by the Rev. D. W. Morgan, was largely attended. The pallbearers were Messrs i Max Kerr (nephew of deceased), W. Frater, R. Macadam, Henry King, L. Hill and E. C. Baigent. There was a large number of beautiful floral emblems. Teacher (questioning infants’ class after lesson the Creation, in which she had explained that man was considered more important than animals) : “Norw tell me, what did God make man more important than?” Little Boy (aged 5) : “Ladies, miss.”
