MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR

PIG MARKETING ASSOCIATION e FURTHER PROGRESS AND s EXPANSION ® In all departments of its activities v the published figures of the New Zea- a land Co-operative Pig Marketing Asso- ® ciation record an expansion of business, P the volume handled for the year being t: a record in all respects. o Altogether the association marketed s just over 110,000 pigs, 329,000 bobby calves and 4,300 cull cattle, amounting b m all to a total of 443,295 carcases with ° an aggregate hooks weight of 26,062,510 c lbs. These figures represent an increase n of 1,776 pigs, 75,001 bobby calves and P 1,360 cull cattle. The most pleasing t] feature is that an increase of 9,956 pigs was sent in by suppliers on consign- t( ment. a Once again a very large proportion of n the total weight of pig meat handled a was disposed of direct from the produ- 11 cer to the retail trade through its own subsidiary curing factories. The associa- c tion's turnover stands at a record of j o £609,000, which together with that of' I its subsidiaries would exceed £BOO,OOO. in In spite of general increases in costs, Itl the association’s administration and! c collecting costs have again been held at! tl a very low figure. | ( During the season over £474,203 has 1 n already been distributed to suppliers of j v pigs, bobby calves and cull cattle, and E there is a nett surplus available for final g distribution to pig and cull cattle sup- c pliers of £23,000, this amount being ex- s elusive of share credits and other bene- v fits on qualified supply. As usual, it is n intended to distribute the surplus to e suppliers towards the end of July, and ii

this will show producers a very satisfactory total return on their pigs. A complete schedule of final payment rates will be found in the company’s annual report which will be circulated to its 10.000 shareholders and suppliers about the middle of next month. The association’s subscribed capital now stands published last year, and paid up capital now stands at £12,825 an increase of £1,700 on last year’s figure. Had it not been for the dislocation of killings at several of the works during March and April, when killing space was severely rationed, and even greater volume of stock would have been handled by the association. - - - !
