NELSON BOARD j NEW SCHOOLS AND SITES The monthly meeting of the Nelson ; Education Board held to-day was attended by the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre (chairman). Messrs J. H. Harkness. F.; A. Hamilton. F. A. Carling. H. Bari-1 • trop, F. V. Knapp, J. G. Wilkens, and | r F. Newman. r Accounts amounting to £16,258 were ’ passed for payment. The tender of Mr M. Chapman was ' accepted for the remodelling of the > Aorere school. [ The Nelson City Council advised that the reclaimed playground area was now available for the use of the Auck- • land Point School. The school committee is to be informed accordingly. The Denniston committee is to be informed that the new school can be • occupied at the commencement of the i second term. Tenders for the erection of a dental clinic at Hampden Street are to be readvertised. It was reported that the Department had not yet replied to the board’s : application for authority to proceed , with the erection of a new school at Hope. The matter was held over pending a reply. Tenders are to be called for the erection of a dental clinic at Ikamatua, the committee to provide one third of ; the cost up to a maximum of £IOO. It was decided to recommend to the : Department, the acceptance of Mr H. i H. Judge’s tender for the erection of the new Seddonville school. The tender of Mr W. Bastin for the erection of additional classrooms at i Tapawera is to be recommended to the < Department for acceptance. The chairman reported on the < new Westport South school. He said i i that the Westport people were very i pleased with the fine new building and were looking forward to the provision 1 of the new building for Westport ( North. I ALTERATIONS AND GROUND IMPROVEMENTS The Ariki School Committee’s re- t quest for a grant to cover the cost of a 1 wood and coal shed was held over. i The Auckland Point Committee’s 1 request for the painting of the concrete < wall in front of the grounds was approved. ( The Brightwater Committee’s request > for improvements to the outbuildings 1 was approved. 1 The Hampden Street Committee 1 asked for the board to bear the cost ) of shifting a door in the teacher’s room, s Mr Knapp and the secretary were £ given power to act in the matter. c The Ikamatua Committee’s request s for. fencing was approved subject to J the committee finding the labour. a The Kotinga Committee was granted £ls towards the cost of installation of r a water pumping system. a The Mangarakau Committee was t granted an additional £5 towards the D cost of the shelter shed. c The Rotokohu Committee was grant- f ed an additional £lO to cover the cost o of rebuilding the out-offices. f A tentative programme for a visit to a the district by the Superintendent of s Physical Education was approved. It was proposed that the Superintendent c visit Takaka for a teachers’ refresher I course on the 9th and 10th June, Mot- s ueka on the 11th and 12th June, West- t' port on the 13th and 14th, and Reefton a on the 16th and 17th June.
