SOLLUM OCCUPIED
BY BRITISH FORCES SERIOUS CASUALTIES INFLICTED ON ENEMY NUMBER OF GERMAN PRISONERS [British Official Wireless] (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) Rugby, May 16. The occupation of Solium by . British forces is announced in a communique issued by British General Headquarters in Cairo. The communique states: In Libya, as the result of limited operations carried out by our covering forces, British troops yester- ( day occupied Halfaya Pass, Musaid and Solium, inflicting serious casualties on the enemy and capturing a number of German prisoners. “In Abyssinia, in spite of continuous heavy rain, further progress has been made in our advance on Amba Alagi. In southern areas the important post of Sciasciamanna has been occupied and further prisoners taken. In Iraq there is no change in the Basra and Habbania areas where the siutation remains calm.”
