REMARKABLE SPEECH BY GOEBBELS
DESPONDENCY SEEN \ [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] i r London, May 16. In a radio address to German sea- v men over the world, at a function y which was attended by seamen’s wives, t Dr. Goebbels made a remarkable % speech which was full of despondency, y “I know of innumerable Germans who have been separated from their wives y and families in our country, and who E sometimes ask in these difficult weeks j the trying question whether the great y sacrifice the people are making and j must make is worth while. p “Let me say that a German victory v is composed of thousands and millions r of small sacrifices. In 1918 the Ger- s man people attempted to shirk the decisive hour, and when we temember [ this our sacrifices, which are some- ]- times heavy for the people and the \ Fuhrer, will be the lighter. s “Because I am a resident of a town which has not been spared by the British bombing I know that, the people t in such towns have to make much I heavier sacrifice than the people of the i towns that are not threatened from .
the air. Jf it is now more difficult to live in such towns, it will be much more honourable after the war to live in them.”
