RICHMOND PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING HELD The monthly meeting of the Richmond Patriotic Committee was held in the Council Chambers. There were present: The chairman (Mr A. R. TufTnell), Mesdames Best and Mason. Messrs Hunter. Wells. Lukey, Croucher. Poole. MeGlashen. Giblin and Polglase. Apologies wore received from Mesdames Wilkes and Croucher and Mr Watt. ! The chairman was reference to the j recent concert in aid of Patriotic Fund by Miss P. Avdon and company and expressed the thanks of the committee to the Girl Guides for selling tickets, the Suburban Bus Co. for free transport of the company, the Women's National Reserve and the Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Aydon and her company for their very fine entertainment by which the Patriotic Funds were considerably augmented. A letter was to hand from the Provincial Patriotic Council giving particulars of amounts received in the recent All Purposes (£1.000,000) Appeal and expressing appreciation of the local effort. This was received. A letter was received in reply to the letter sent on behalf of the people of Richmond to Richmond members of the forces or active service overseas, from one member serving in the Navy expressing his appreciation of the kind thoughts and good wishes extended to him. but stating that so far he had not received anything in the way of knitted contorts as mentioned in the committee’s letter. Mr A. Hunter expressed his regret that the first reply received shou'd be to the effect that nothing had been received by this lad of the knitted , work which had gone forward from | the Borough, and moved that a letter should be sent to the National Patriotic Council drawing attention to the fact. The motion was put and carried. A cheque was to hand from the Waimea Sale Yards Co. Ltd. for £1 6s, being the net proceeds of the sale of six sheep at Richmond for patriotic funds. I In regard to the canvass of the Bori oug'-i for donations for the Soldiers’ : Presentation Fund as decided upon at a I previous meeting, it was decided that I the Borough be divided into blocks to be canvassed by members of the Patriotic Committee. who would be j supplied with an official subscription Mist. These funds were II aside to provide presentations for members of the forces leaving for overi seas service and were quite apart from the Patriotic Fund, except that any money in hand after the war would ' automatically go to the Patriotic Fund. Mr A Hunter moved a vote of thanks to the chairman and on behalf of the • committee expressed appreciation of the very considerable amount of work 1 he had done in that capacity and con- ; gratulated him upon taking over the ‘ Mayoralty of the Borough once again. .
