FESTIVAL CONCLUDES I A FINANCIAL SUCCESS TROPHIES PRESENTED I The 1941 festival of the Nelson Comi petitions concluded last night with a demonstration concert after which the , trophies were presented. The Theatre Royal was packed. The programme j was a popular one and the prize-win ners taking part were warmly receiv ' cd. Betty Sharp: Piano Solo, Anne Stedman. At the conclusion the president. Mr C. T. Webley. announced that as a result of good support by the public the society would end the festival with a profit. He thanked the official accompanists, the ladies. committ«e. the secretary and the committee. He thanked the judges for their assistance. Replying Mr Frederick Bullock said that taking things generally there had been an improvement in the standard of wcik. particularly in the singing and especially in the 14-18 classes, where there were some excellent voices. He was sure that the voices heard there among the girls were not the only voices in Nelson. He added that the real heroes of the competition were | the committee who worked so hard.
