SECOND OFFENCE
INTOXICATED IN CHARGE GAOL FOR MOTORIST TUnited Press Association] Auckland. May 15. Sentence of one month’s imprisonment for a second offence of being intoxicated while in charge of a motorcar was passed by Mr Hunt, S.M., on Herbert Edward Muncaster O’Neill, aged 35. battery repairer. Police said the car struck a boy on a cycle near an intersection on the new North Road about 4.55 p.m. on 7th May. The boy could not be traced by the police, and it was evident he had not been injured. It was alleged that O’Neill’s car did not stop and that he was chased and forced to stop by a taxi driver, also that he afterward disappeared and was found drunk in bed at his home shortly after 6 p.m. O'Neill stated in evidence that he j had no drink during the day, but that after returning home, had several botj ties of beer with a companion, i The magistrate: I don’t believe it. On the ai-t ond charge of driving j without a license. O’Neill was convicted and discharged.
