MODERN AIRCRAFT IN N.Z.
AMERICAN MACHINES ARRIVE ADDITION TO DEFENCES [United Press Association! Wellington, This Day. The arrival in the Dominion from the United States of America during i the past month of a number of Harvard and Hudson aircraft was announced by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, in 3n interview last evening. He said these aircraft would add materially to the air defences of New Zealand. “The Harvard,” said Mr Jcnes, “is a modern single-engine trainer which is now extensively used at service flying training schools in the United Kingdom and Canada. These aircraft ' will in due course replace the Gordons ; and Vincents which have given very good service in Nos. 1 and 2 Service 1 Fiying Training Schools. “The Hudson is a modern high-speed ■ general reconnaissance aircraft. This ‘ l type of aircraft is extensively employ- • ed on general reconnaissance duties in • the Royal Air Force and has been frequently mentioned in Press communiques regarding the activities of the Royal Air Force.”
