SOUTH CANTERBURY MEETING CHIEF EVENT TO ROYAL LANCER [United Press Association] Timaru, May 15. The first day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club's winter meeting attracted a good crowd. The track was in good order and the totalisator handled £12,749, against £8702 on the corresponding day last year. Additional results were:— Claremont Hack Handicap, of £120; six furlongs.—2-2 Hurry Girl, 7.9, car., 7.6 (Stevens) 1; 6-3 Treasurer, 8.2 (Stokes) 2; 5-4 Eulogist, 8.9, car. 8.2 (S. Green) 3. Also started: Sheeny, Donroy, Lady Derby, Guilder, Nightglass, On Call, Retrogression, Tissue, Irish Lass, Roman Son, Dispense, Jolly Time, Haughty Lad, Decamp, Enticing, Irvington. Won by two lengths each way. On Call was fourth. Time, 1.13. Opihi Trot Handicap, of £ 140; 3.43 class; one mile and a half.—4-4 Catalpa, 12yds bhd (McTigue) 1: 2-2 Swagger Jack, scr (R.
