TRUCK HIT BY TRAIN

TWO MEN INJURED LEVEL CROSSING SMASH [United Press Association) Auckland, Apl., 21. Two men were injured, one of them seriously, in a level crossing accident near Henderson Railway Station this morning. They were in a Waitemata Electric Power Board service truck which was hit at the South Road crossing by the train due to arrive at Henderson from Auckland shortly before noon. The injured were: R. Proctor, married, aged 26, of Henderson, concussion and head injuries. Condition serious. J. C. Mackenzie, married, aged 36, of St. Heliers, concussion. Condition not serious. Both men are employees of the Waitemata Power Board. The truck was hit on the driver’s side and then carried over a cattle-stop and along the line for about 30 yards before being flung clear, to finish up facing the way from which it had come. Most of the woodwork of the body was smashed to pieces, extension and step ladder* inside were shattered, the bonnet was ripped off, the bumper bar broken into several parts, and the cab badly dented. Pieces of wreckage were scattered over a large area. The railway engine was not damaged ?nd the service proceeded normally.
