Scenic Grandeur
“I do not think that New Zealand people realise what a treasure they have in their lakes, and I mean particularly Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown,” said Mr Frank Tait, of Melbourne, managing director of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., who paid a visit to Queenstown recently. “While England has its lake district, Scotland its lochs, Switzerland its lovely lakes, and Canada its lakes of a thousand isles, I very much doubt if any one of those countries has more to offer from the standpoint of scenic grandeur than New Zealand’s southern lakes. I got a thrill out of my visit. Queenstown is a delightfully clean little town on the edge of the great lake, looking across to the majestic Remarkables that tower into the blue. I am told that this sight in the wintertime is particularly impressive. Even the drive through the country up to Wakatipu is something to remember. What has surprised me more than anything is the number of people resident in New Zealand who have never visited this lake district in the south. I can assure them they do not know f the wonders of their own country till they have seen these lakes, which provide such scenes of ravishing beauty.”
