ANOTHER £lo,ooo FOR FIGHTERS
WEALTHY NEW ZEALANDER’S GIFTS (British Official Wireless) (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) Rugby Feb. 19 Mr Charles Alma Baker, a wealthy New Zealander now resident in the Straits’ Settlements, is the first to purchase the right to name two Tornado fighters. His latest gift of £IO,OOO brings his total contributions to the aircraft fund to £30,000. Mr Baker, who is 84 years of age, owns rubber estates and tin mines in Malaya and sheep and cattle stations in Australia and New Zealand. He was the founder in the last war of the Australian and Malayan battle plane squadrons numbering 94 machines.
