MONSTER SEASIDE GALA
TAHUNA BEACH, TO-MORROW The official opening of Nelson’s Queen Carnival is to be held at Tahuna Beach io-moiTow, when many attractions will be presented to the public free of charge. The day’s activities commence at 11 a.m when the various Queens, accompanied by their attendants, arrive at the beach by plane, armoured car and warship and after due pomp and ceremony will be introduced to the public. His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) will then officially open the carnival. At 2 p.m. the three queens and thenprincesses will be introduced to the public and at 2.45 p.m. an amazing bathing beauty parade representing the weird and wonderful fashions from 1880 to the latest types for 1950 will be displayed to the huge gathering that is expected to view this spectacle. This attraction alone is well worth a trip to the beach. At 3.30 p.m. a valuable treasure hunt will be open to the children, followed by a treacle bun competition. In addition, a large marquee has been erected at the rear of the bathing sheds where morning and afternoon tea will be available at a reasonable charge. Soft drinks and ice cream will also be there. The oval at the rear of the parking area will be allotted to the many and varied side shows and these alone are well worth viewing, many of them being most entertaining.
There is no charge for admittance to the beach and also no parking fees for cars. The road from Beach road to the usual parking place will be closed and arrangements have been made for all cars to be parked on the football ground at the rear of the tennis courts. Without doubt the gala is one which will appeal to every section of the city and district and from indications already made, there should be one of the greatest crowds ever seen on Tahuna Beach. Both the Nelson Pipe and the Nelson Citizens’ Band will be in attendance to enliven proceedings. Many thousands of city people are actively engaged in some activity for their particular queen and if enthusiasm counts for anything, the success o/ the Queen Carnival is assured.
There are not many occasions when so many attractions are given to the public free of charge and there is no doubt that they will show their appreciation by attending this huge Patriotic effort all the proceeds from which are for our boys in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
