HAMPDEN ST. SCHOOL BATHS
OFFICIAL OPENING ON SATURDAY! SWIMMING CARNIVAL AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS If fine weather prevails there should be a big attendance in the Hampden Street Schoolgrounds on Saturday af- 1 ternoon next when at 2.15 the Member I for Nelson, Mr H. Atmore, will official- ! ly open the new swimming baths. The Prime /Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser' had hoped to attend but an important ! engagement in Wellington on Saturday ' will prevent him from doing so. 1 Opportunity is being taken of the; official opening to stage a big aquatic carnival in the new baths and prominent members of the local swimming clubs will take part. The Hampden Street School children will present Folk Dances etc., and the usual exhibition of pupils’ work associated with parents’ day will be held in the schoolrooms. There will be stalls for the sale of cakes, sweets, ice cream etc., and a dainty afternoon tea will be dispensed under the control of the teaching staff. The 12th Regimental Band will play bright selections during the afternoon and ample seating accommodation will be available enabling all to see and follow the proceedings in comfort. An admittance charge of Is to adults will be made, the proceeds assisting towards the cost of materials used in erecting the new dressing sheds. It is ( hoped that the efforts of the Committee, and the willing helpers in working for the establishment of swimming bath/s will be rewarded by a big attendance at the opening function.
