BOWLING
EXECUTIVE MEETING OF MAITAI CLUB The monthly meeting of the committee of the Maitai Bowling Club was held last evening. The president, Mr B. E. Leggat, was in the chair and also present were Messrs E. C. LaFrentz, A. White. W. H. Herbert. W. A. Kenning, H. R. Dodson. J. Mac Lean and G. E. Piper. Twelve applications for membership were approved, and the usual action taken in accordance with the rules of the club. Mr G. Piper referred to the tournament to be held at Takaka at New Year. He considered that the club should be represented by at least two rinks and he expressed the opinion that if an effort were made there should be little difficulty in sending several rinks. Members concurred, and it was decided to call for individual players to hand in their names so that suitable fours can be made up. A letter was received from the secretary of the Runanga Goodwill Tour advising that, owing to unforeseen circumstances, the proposed tour of the the Nelson and Marlborough districts had been abandoned. At the conclusion of the meeting the president stated that as it was the last meeting before the holiday season he desired to take the opportunity to wish the members of the committee the compliments of the season. He hoped that members and their families would have a good Christmas and that the New Year would bring better times for all. In concluding. Mr Leggat expressed tl\e hope that the sentiments he expressed would apply to the club generally so that members would be able to have a good green and plenty of good games of bowls to fully recompense them for the lean period whicn had been experienced recently. Mr G. Piper suitably replied on behalf of members. The club competitions have now commenced and the following are the results of games already played:— Senior singles: Persico beat Leggat; Stringer beat Kenning.
