“USING WAR SITUATION”
TO EXTEND WORKING WEEK A MEETING'S OPINION [United Press Association] AUCKLAND, 10th December. The opinion that the Master Builders and Employers’ Associations were using the war situation in an endeavour to extend the working week was expressed at a meeting of the executive and officials of fourteen Auckland building trades unions. The question of extension of the working week was fully discussed and a resolution was carried pledging the meeting to uphold the decision of the Minister of Labour in his refusal to a Wellington deputation to extend working hours in the building industry on a flat rate basis. A second resolution endorsed the principles embodied in the report of a sub committee apr ointed by Cabinet to consider ways and means of meeting the Government's requirements of housing construction and other State buildings, which was endorsed by the National Federation of Labour.
