GERMAN POLICY IN FAR EAST

NON-RECOGNITION OF WANG REGIME LONDON, Bth December. The tangle of German policy in the Far East is still arousing widespread comment. An ingenious effort to explain Germany’s failure to recognise Mr Wang Ching-wei is reported to-day from Pekin. It is stated in diplomatic quarters in Pekin that Germany now wants to use recognition of the new puppet Government as a bargaining poin’; with Japan, in the hope of embroiling her with Britain. In other quarters it is pointed out that Germany is in alliance with Soviet Russia, and that while she has never even preteniad to help Japan against China, she made clear her desire to use Japan as a weapon against Britain when she drew up the AxisTokio Pact. The Chinese leave no doubt where their loyalty lies. A report from Chungking says that Chinese military commanders in the field, as well as party leaders in the provinces, are issuing circular telegrams denouncing Mr Wang Ching-wei and the puppet Government, and pledging their loyalty to the Government of General Chiang Kai-shek. NO KNOWLEDGE OF SECRET ALLIANCE (Received 10th December, 12.20 p.m.) SINGAPORE, 9th December. British General Headquarters replying to Japanese reports says it has “no knowledge of any negotiations proceeding for a secret Anglo-Chinese military alliance”
