FLOATING MINES
SIGHTED IN BASS STRAIT [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-CopyrightJ WASHINGTON. 7th December, ted States Navy Hydrographic Office has advised shipmasters that floating mines have been sighted in the vicinity of Bass Strait, Australia. Naval minesweepers were engaged in Bass Strait following the sinking bv mines of a British steamer and the o*?™ lcan steamer City of Rayville on Bth November, and the Australian Minister of the Navy, Mr W. M. Hughes, announced on 4th December that 19 mines had been swept up and sweeping was continuing.
