GERMANS HOPE FOR EXPORT j RESUMPTION FINDING MATERIALS ; i U P A -B.v Electric Teleei aph-Copyri«ht PARIS. Bth December. | Dr Josel Hartmann, counsellor to the German military administration, j announced that it was hoped to resume | the exports of Paris dress and hat | fashions to America. Germany was : doing her utmost to find materials. The genera] textile situation in occupied France was satisfactory, although production was only 30 per cent, of the pre-war figure. Emphasis was being placed on the manufacture of rayons and fibre materials with a view to reaching the widest market. Two million workers were already at the looms in the northern textile districts. There was remarkably little war damage, except around Dunkirk and around Sedan. However, there were cases where looms and stocks had been left unattended until they deteriorated. German textile experts who made an inventory immediately after the occupation found the quantities not so great as was expected. New factories would be in operation after the New Year.
