VERY SUCCESSFUL DAY LARGE ATTENDANCE FROM ALL PARTS OF PROVINCE OFFICIAL OPENING BY THE HON. P. C. WEBB The sixth annual show of the Motueka Agricultural and Pastoral Association held at Marchwood Park on Saturday, in spite of unsettled weather prevailing throughout the day, attracted a large crowd of visitors from all parts of the Nelson Province, and proved very successful both from the point of view of entries and the financial aspect. Gate takings amounted to approximately £IBO, about £6O in excess of last year, when the fixture was held in very wet weather. The show was officially opened by the Hon. P. C. Webb, Postmaster-General and Minister of Labour.
For some weeks past an enthusiastic show committee has worked strenuously , to finalise the necessary preparations, and their efforts contributed greatly to the success of the day. Mr D. L. Llewellin (president), Mr O. C. Wilkinson (secretary) and the , other officials associated with them are to be heartily congratulated on the achievement. Music was provided by the Motueka Municipal Juvenile Band under the i conductorship of Mr Gerald Green, the selections played being much appreciated by the public. Captain J. Balck officiated as marshal in the enclosure, around which an interested crowd of spectators assembled and witnessed the ring events, the programme concluding with the lady’s hunter competition at 6 o’clock. All sections of the show were well patronised, and ample provision was made by members of the A. and P. ladies’ ' committee and by the Moutere branch of the Women’s Division to supply refreshments for the public and the officials respectively. In addition to the side shows, trade stands and stalls, were displays by the Field Division and Horticultural Division of the Department of Agriculture, Messrs D. Merry and J. O. Anderson being in charge of the respective secCrowds of exhibitors and farmers in general were attracted to the stock pens situated in the shade of the bush, while the sheds in which the produce, industrial and school exhibits were housed were always occupied with keenly interested young people and grown-ups. Car parking arrangements were under the supervision of the Nelson Automobile Association’s special patrol officer, and the work of parking was expeditiously carried out. Members of the Motueka Division, St. John Ambulance were in attendance throughout the day.
