RUNAWAY TRAM
DRIVER DIES AT CONTROLS [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] (Received 9th December, 9.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A tramload of people, including many children, proceeding to Balmoral beach on Sunday morning had a narrow escape when the driver, unnoticed, collapsed and died on his controls.. The tram, rapidly gathering speed, ran through the customary stopping places. When the conductor took in me situation he rushed to the driver’s cabin, sa-.v what had happened and applied the emergency brakes and brought the tram to a standstill.
