WEEK OF TERROR IN RUMANIA
BETWEEN 350 AND 500 MURDERED IRON GUARD ACTIVITIES [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyrtght | (Received 7th December, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, 6th December. Iron Guards have killed between 350 and 500 people, half of them I Jews, in the first Rumanian week of terror which began on 27th Na- ! vember. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Budapest correspondent says this is an uncenscored message. “I have just left Rumania where I saw the actual slaughter. It is impossilrle to arrive at a close estimate of the dead. Most witnesses of the assassinations are either afraid to tell what they have seen or are in hiding. I estimate that between 100 and 200 intellectuals, politicians, aristocrats, and others have been killed. Hundreds of leading Rumanians are so afraid of assassinations that they are hiding in woods.” General Antonescu to-day passed a decree providing court martial for Rumanians rebelling against the army. Thij is believed to be designed to strengthen the army against the Iron Guard.
