LIVE STOCK MARKET

1 THIS WEEK’S BLENHEIM SALE l ! WETHERS IMPROVE; EWES DOWN A slight improvement in values for j fat wethers was offset by a fallingoff in the inquiry for fat ewes at the weekly Blenheim stock sale (reports j the "Express”!. The yarding of 573 fats was again too Uirge for the re- ’ quirements of a small group of local ' butchers, and towards the end of the 1 auction the inquiry died back to a ; low level, a number of pens bein£ passed in, and some were not even offered. The general quality of the yarding was fairly good, although some of the younger wethers needed finishing off. Among the 293 ewes offered were some sheep of good class, and most of these attracted bright competition. Two good pens, one of which was owned by Mr T. O’Dwyer, realised 17s 4d. and a pen of well-finished sorts offered on account of Messrs Register and Lane made 16s lOd. A further handy pen. offered on behalf of Mr T. Neal, of Seddon, fetched 16s 7d. Two very heavy ewes owned by Mr F. J. Beamsley were run up to 20s before being quitted. The most popular price range was from round about 12s Id to 14s 4d. Wethers met with a fairly good sale. Several pens offered on account of Mr C. D. Cunningham attracted some of the best competition, sales being made at 23s 4d. 24s Id, 24s 4d. and 25s Id. Several other good sales were made at round about 22s Id and up to 23s Id. THE STORE SECTION The feature of the store section was the entry of Romney Cross and half*bred wethers. Two pens of largeframed 4. 6 and 8-tooth Romney Crosses, owned by Mr P. Hocquard, changed hands at 19s 10d and 20s. A line of forward two-tooth halfbreds. owned by Mr F. H. Rutland, made 16s 3d.
