HOME GUARD
MEETING AT STOKE ! There was an attendance of upwards 1 of 50 at a meeting held in the Stoke Hah to consider the formation of a branch of the Home Guard. The chair was occupied by Mr G. Manson, who expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present. He called on Mr J. A. Harley io address the meeting. Mr Harley gave a lucid outline of the formation of the various emergency and defence organisations since the outbreak of war. He clearly indicated the duties and obligations incumbent on all who joined the Home Guard. At the conclusion of his remarks a ! number of questions were asked and i were satisfactorily dealt with by Mr : Harley. The following local committee was : then set up: Mr G. Manson (chairman),i Messrs J T. Baigent. E. R. Black. O. i l Barton, A R. Officer, J. A. Trask and A.; j J Ching. i It was decided to recommend to the | area commanding officer that Mr J. T. Baigent be appointed as officer in charge of the local unit. Practically all those present were ’ swoin in as members of the Home Guard by Mr O. Barton, and arrangements were made to have the ffrst; parade next week. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Har-; ley for his attendance and help was! carried by the meeting.
