ST. JOHN AMBULANCE DIVISION SOCIAL AND DANCE PRESENTATIONS BY SUPERINTENDENT The second annual social and dance organised by the Motueka Division of | the St. John Ambulance was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday, when members, friends and visitors from Nelson spent a very enjoyable evening. Proceedings commenced with community singing led by Mr T. Simpson with Mr B. Reeve at the piano and Mr L. Gray, saxophone. Messrs J. Brown and L. Gray supplied music for the dancing which was interspersed with vocal and musical items. Mr T. Simpi son officiated as M.C. and Mrs T. Kell--1 ings played extras. PRESENTATIONS BY SUPERINTENDENT At the supper interval Superintendent . J. T. Brough, said it was customary at j the annual re-union to show appreciaj tion of the services of those who had i assisted the Division throughout the | year. | The Division was fortunate in having | its own surgeon. Dr A. R. Green, who I had made the lectures interesting, and 1 members had appreciated very much what he had done for them. On behalf of the Division the Superintendent handed to Mr T. Simpson a gift for Dr Green, who was unable to be present. Mr Simpson suitably returned thanks. In asking District Superintendent E. Ashton to accept for Dr Crawshaw a token of appreciation of his services Mr Brough, remarked that the doctor had attended all examinations and was a true friend to the Motueka Division. District Superintendent Ashton (Nelson and Marlborough areas) was also the recipient of a gift. Mr Brough referred to him as an indispensible friend. : who was painstaking and spared no | effort in making members efficient and I to him the Motueka St John Ambu- ! lance Division owed its origin, i Superintendent Ashton said he liked to do the work and looked for no reward but accepted the gift in the spirit !in which it was offered. So far Mo- | tueka had been consistent in that it 1 had obtained a 100 per cent, pass of its members. They were fortunate in hav--1 ing for their social functions, Mr T. Simpson, who was equal to any of the New Zealand community song leaders ! heard on the wireless. | Miss I. Ingram, who had promised transport for the Nelson visitors oh a number of occasions at personal sacrifice received a gift from the Nursing Division as a token of appreciation and j thanks. Mr Brough urged members not to i relax in their training as he felt that : before the next year was out the St. John Ambulance would have many | calls. i Items contributed during the evening were as follows:—Saxophone solos, i “Those Endearing Young Charms.” • “Memories,” “Bells of St. Mary's,” “Ah! | Sweet Mystery of Life,” Mr L. Gray; j piano accordeon selections. “You’re the ! Only Star,” “Kiss Me Goodnight etc.”, iMr J. Taylor; vocal solos. “Shipmates i O’ Mine” and "Friend O’ Mine,” Mr W. iM. Thomas; musical bones, “Sailor’s I Hornpipe” and “Irish Jig,” Mr J. T. Brough; solo, “Best Looking Girls,” Mr iH. Doig. A delicious supper was dis- | pensed by the ladies of the Division.
