NOEL COWARD’S “HAY FEVER”

PRODUCTION BY NELSON REPERTORY CLUB FINAL PERFORMANCE LAST EVENING Brightly staged by the Nelson Repertory Club. Noel Coward’s comedy “Hay Fever” attracted a large audience to the Theatre Royal last evening when it was played for the second night for the Patriotic Fund. The light atmosphere of the play was well maintained by the cast and the audience was kept thoroughly entertained throughout. Speaking at the conclusion of the performance the president of the Repertory Club. Mr J. W. Russell, said that the club had reached the end of its final production in a very successful year in which it had staged two excellent shows. He thanked the public for the warm support they had given, first to “Nine tc Six,” and then to “Hay Fever.” That support made it possible for the Repertory Club to keep alive the theatre movement which should be part of every community. War or no war the club would carry on. but its activities j would all be in aid of the Patriotic | Fund. Mr Russell expressed thanks to the members of the club fo. their work I behind the scenes and in front of the house and their untiring efforts in the j weeks before the show. He also thank- ! ed the firms which had assisted, and made special mention of Mr Clarrie Lee and his orchestra. Mr W. Simm was another who had played a big part in miking the play a success, added Mr i Russell. He had been stage manager, and had also taken an important part in the production. To all the cast he tendered the appreciation o the club for the pleasing and living performance given. The greatest meed of praise, how-, ever, must go to the producer, Mrs W. j Moynihan, said Mr Russell. All who i had attempted the task would know the j great difficulties involved in producing a play with finish and conviction. Mrs Moynihan thanked the cast, who, she said, had worked splendidly. The three young members making their debut on the repertory stage had given pleasing performances and the cast had been balanced by the inclusion of other experienced players. All had given enthusiastic support to the production.
