Best ewes and wethers I 11 were dearer by up to 3s a head and j others by Is to 2s. Wethers were in j , j short supply. Heavy wethers made to j . 142 s 7d, medium weights 31s to 355; i ' best ewes to 36s 4d. medium 25s to 30s. \ j A small yarding oi store sheep met [i an excellent den and from a large ! attendance of buyers. A big line of j station wethers from Marlborough ; sold very well. Ewes and lambs met i a good demand at a rise of Is 6d. ! Though the fat lamb yarding was larger the sale was keen and steady at slightly lower rates, which are now a little above the export schedule. A smaller yarding of fat cattle came forward, but the prices were again ' lower. The sale was very slow, and j best beef was 10s to 15s down, with! t rdinary and cow beef as much as 25s a head lower. Good beef made 37s 6d to 40s a hundred pounds. Best steers sold to £2l 17s 6d, medium £l3 to £18; best heifers to £l6 2s 6d, others £3 10s to £l2 10s; best cows to £l6, others £7 to £ll. Good supplies of both pork and j bacon were offered. Pork remained about firm, but bacon was higher by 4s ! to 5s a head. Pork averaged 7=fcl to'B3d) a pound and bacon to 7^d.
