ARMING OF POLISH FORCES
AND BRITISH RELATIONS WITH SOVIET QUESTION IN COMMONS [British Official Wireless] (Received sth December, 11.2 c a.m.) RUGBY, 4th December. Mr W. P. Gallicher, the only Communist at Westminster, to-day asked the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr R. A. Butler, “Why Polish forces a:: being rapidly armed by Britain in view of the fact that the Polish Government claims to be in a state of war with the Soviet Government and that in their recent proposals to the Soviet Britain promised not to render assistance to any power or powers engaged in war against the Soviet Union.” Mr Butler replied: “The member’s question is best answered by saying that the Polish forces arc being armed against the enemies the British and Polish Governments have in common, not against powers with which Britain is at peace. Another reply recalled the often stated glad welcome of any developments likely to maintain and improve Britain’s relations with the U.S.S.R.
