OBITUARY
MISS M. E. ROGERS Miss Mary Elizabeth Rogers, who ; passed away last week at Richmond after a short illness, was the grand--1 daughter of the late Bernard Gapper, j who arrived in Nelson in the ship Clifford" in May. 1842. and was afterwards wounded in the hand at the I Wairau Massacre. Born at Westport 71 years ago. when the Coast port was a mere village. Miss | Rogers transferred to Richmond at an early age and has resided there ever j since. Miss Rogers always took a keen interest in church affairs and remained to the end a loyal supporter of St. Alban’s. Appleby, while for many years she acted as superintendent of the Sunday School there. The funeral on Saturday was largely attended, and the many beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem and respect in which she was held in the disr trict. Messrs E. H. Rogers. Palmerston North, and M. Rogers. Richmond, are brothers of the deceased
